You are looking for caps with the right panel geometry for your streetwear label, event crew, company or sports club — and you are not sure whether 5-, 6- or 7-panel is the right cut? ShirtStore embroiders and prints all three panel geometries in every common variant: classic 5-panel campers, 6-panel snapbacks and 6-panel stretch caps from Flexfit, and 7-panel high-crown caps from Beechfield. On this page we explain which geometry suits which use case, how embroidery, DTF, transfer print and patches behave on the different cuts, and where the stitch position on the front, side or back is most effective.

How easy it is to design your panel cap

Four steps, no minimum order, live pricing. You see the final per-piece price including decoration directly in the configurator.

    1. Choose panel geometry — 5-panel (streetwear, seamless front), 6-panel (classic for sport, club, company) or 7-panel (hip-hop, urban high-crown look). Filterable by snapback, strapback and Flexfit.
    2. Choose model and material — cotton twill for classic embroidery, polyester foam for trucker fronts, brushed cotton for 5-panel campers, Flexfit stretch for fitted caps.
    3. Upload or design logo — vector (SVG, AI, EPS) preferred for embroidery, high-resolution pixel file for DTF and transfer print. Position: front-centre, side panel or back closure.
    4. Order and decorate — file check, print approval, production in our own facility. 7–10 working days standard, express on request.

For streetwear labels with a capsule collection we recommend the bulk-order inquiry from 30 pieces upward — we then calculate across models and advise on mixing different panel geometries in one order (e.g. 20 5-panel campers plus 10 7-panel high-crown under one brand logo).

Panel geometries explained — 5 vs. 6 vs. 7 panel

The panel count describes how many fabric segments make up the cap's crown. It influences the look, the fit, the ventilation and above all the available print area on the front. Here is a detailed model table comparing the three geometries with their typical use cases:

Panel count Crown construction Front seam Typical look Advantages Disadvantages Best use case
5-panel 2 side panels + 1 large front panel + 2 back panels No front seam (front is ONE piece) Streetwear, camper, BMX, skate Smooth uninterrupted print area; unique camper look; lightweight Lower crown, logo must not be too large Streetwear labels, skate/BMX clubs, festival crews, young fashion brands
6-panel 2 side panels + 2 front panels (with centre seam) + 2 back panels Centre seam on the front (vertical) Classic baseball cap, sport, company, club Universally usable; classic look; many cut variants; ideal for embroidery Centre seam interferes only if the logo is centred exactly on it Sports clubs, company caps, field sales, marathon events, construction crews
7-panel 2 side panels + 3 front panels (two additional small segments on top) + 2 back panels 2 additional stitch lines on the front crown (tapering at the top) High-crown, hip-hop, urban streetwear, premium More crown height, "taller" look; makes logos visually larger; premium feel Centre stitches more complex for multi-element artwork; rarely a trucker variant Streetwear labels with a premium claim, urban event crews, brand capsule drops

In practice the 6-panel dominates the B2B sector (company, club, sport, field sales) because it is the universal classic. Streetwear labels and skate clubs prefer the 5-panel camper because of the seamless front. The 7-panel is the boutique variant for brand labels with a hip-hop or urban premium claim — seen less often but visually distinctive.

Snapback vs. strapback vs. Flexfit vs. trucker

Independently of the panel count there are four common closure and fit concepts. They determine whether the cap is fitted (Flexfit) or adjustable (snapback, strapback), and whether it has a mesh back (trucker):

    • Snapback — plastic snap closure at the back, flat brim (classic streetwear), in 5- and 6-panel variants. Example: Beechfield B640 Snapback Trucker (5-panel trucker with mesh back), Flexfit 6089M Classic Snapback (6-panel, wool blend).
    • Strapback — fabric or leather strap with a buckle at the back, more subtle and "grown-up" than a snapback. Often 5- or 6-panel, with a curved or flat brim.
    • Flexfit (fitted stretch) — no closure, crown made from a stretch blend (spandex content), adapts to head sizes S/M, L/XL and partly XXL. Example: Flexfit 6245CM 6-Panel Stretch (brushed cotton with stretch sweatband), curved brim, fitted without closure.
    • Trucker — front made of polyester foam (perfect for embroidery), back made of mesh (ventilation), mostly snapback closure. Classic 5-panel (one front panel + two mesh back panels) or 6-panel. Example: Result Headwear RC080X Houston (5-panel trucker).

For company crews with mixed head sizes we recommend snapback or strapback to avoid size confusion. For a high-end brand-look streetwear label, Flexfit is often the better choice — the fit looks cleaner and "tailored". For event crews and outdoor events (festival, marathon, tasting), the trucker variant with mesh ventilation is standard.

Recommended brands and models by panel geometry

We focus on three established cap suppliers with stable availability and consistent quality. All models are in standard stock and decorated within 7–10 working days.

    5-panel caps

    • Beechfield B639 Original 5-Panel Camper — the streetwear standard. 100 % washed cotton, brass-buckle closure at the back (strapback), seamless front panel — perfect for brand logos without an interfering seam. 6+ colours (heather, olive, black, stone, navy).
    • Flexfit 6005 5-Panel — 5-panel with Flexfit stretch construction, fitted without closure. Polyester-wool blend, premium look, "tailored" fit. For streetwear brand labels with a premium claim.
    • Result Headwear RC080X Houston — classic 5-panel trucker, front polyester panel + mesh back, snapback closure. Very embroidery-friendly, many colour combinations.
    • Beechfield B640 Snapback Trucker (5-panel trucker variant) — 5-panel trucker construction with polyester-foam front and mesh back. 22 colour combinations, snapback closure.

    6-panel caps

    • Flexfit 6245CM 6-Panel Stretch (Brushed Cotton) — the most important 6-panel stretch classic. Brushed cotton look, Flexfit stretch sweatband, fitted in S/M and L/XL, curved brim. Premium quality, very popular for outdoor brand labels.
    • Flexfit 6089M Classic Snapback — 6-panel snapback with wool-polyester blend, flat brim, classic streetwear look. Ideal for brand labels who want a 6-panel snapback rather than a trucker variant.
    • Beechfield 6-panel classics (in our range in several cut variants, e.g. with a curved brim for the baseball-cap look) — the default choice for sports clubs, company crews and field sales.

    7-panel caps

    • Beechfield B610 7-Panel Snapback — the high-crown classic in our range. 100 % cotton twill, snapback closure, flat brim, noticeably elevated crown compared to a 6-panel. Premium feel, ideal for capsule streetwear drops and urban event crews. 4–6 standard colours (black, navy, heather, olive).

For streetwear labels we typically recommend a mix of 5-panel camper (B639) and 7-panel high-crown (B610) as a capsule. For sports clubs and company crews the 6-panel Flexfit (6245CM) is the most economical and "cleanest" choice.

Decoration — embroidery, DTF, transfer print or patch?

Caps have curved fronts and partly tight materials (foam panel, wool blend, stretch). Not every method works equally well. Here is our recommendation as a comparison:

Method Min. pieces Durability Best for Limitations
Embroidery 5+ (due to €35 digitising fee) Hundreds of washes, thread strength Logo front on 6- and 7-panel; side-panel stitch; back-closure stitch Very fine lines below 1 mm difficult; max. 12 thread colours per motif
DTF print 1+ 30–50 washes Multi-colour logos, photo designs, complex gradients; ideal for 5-panel campers (smooth front) Slight print distortion possible on curved polyester-foam fronts; low-temperature heat press
Transfer print 1+ 30–50 washes Detail motifs with gradient; removable functional prints; flex and stretch caps On very strong crown stretch (Flexfit) the film can crack over time
Flex print 1+ 100+ washes Individual names, numbers, single-colour lettering on back closure or side panel Single colour per film, max. 2 film layers per motif
Patches (woven or embroidered) 25+ (patch setup) Very high, shape-stable Premium streetwear look; trucker caps with front patch; hip-hop style One-off patch setup €60–120 net; minimum run per patch design

Embroidery dominates company and club caps because of its durability and "premium" feel. DTF and transfer are the most economical methods from small runs for streetwear capsules. Patches are the premium choice for brand labels that want a 3D effect with seam detail — particularly on trucker caps with a polyester-foam front.

Stitch position — where does the logo work best?

The position of the decoration significantly influences brand impact. We decorate caps in four possible positions:

    • Front-centre — standard position. Logo centred on the front panel (5-panel) or across the centre seam (6-panel). Maximum visibility. Typical logo size 7–9 cm wide, 4–6 cm high. On 6-panel caps the logo should either be small enough to avoid the centre seam, or designed explicitly so that the seam does not disrupt the logo.
    • Front-side (off-centre) — logo left or right of centre, smaller (4–5 cm). More subtle, less "in-your-face" — popular with boutique brand labels and high-end streetwear drops.
    • Side panel — embroidery or patch on one of the side panels. Very popular for sport and race caps (small, discreet). Position: right or left side panel, centred between the panel seams. Stitch-position surcharge €1.50–2.50 per piece.
    • Back closure (snapback strap) — mini logo or lettering on the snapback strap at the back. Subtle brand detail, not primarily visible. Ideal for "whisper branding".

Multi-position decoration (e.g. large front logo plus small side logo) is possible — €1.50–2.50 per additional position per piece. For embroidery orders from 100 pieces we negotiate multi-position bundles in the individual calculation.

Cap materials — what the front can take

Material and construction determine which decoration works optimally:

    • Cotton twill (B639, B610, B15) — standard for classic embroidery. Receives embroidery thread smoothly, no melt risk. Very embroidery-friendly.
    • Polyester foam (trucker front) (B640, RC080X) — the front foam panel is the ideal stitch and print surface. Very shape-stable, holds the logo position permanently.
    • Brushed cotton / wool blend (Flexfit 6245CM, 6089M) — premium material with a very clean look. Embroidery perfectly possible, slight adjustment of stitch tension due to stretch construction.
    • Mesh (trucker back) — not decorated directly (prints run through the mesh).
    • Polyacrylic knit (beanies — not panel caps, just for completeness) — stitch on the front knit panel with special backing.

For outdoor brand labels (hiking, travel, climbing) brushed cotton or wool blend are the better choice over pure cotton because of UV and weather resistance.

    Quantity discount staircase and pricing

The staircase applies to the per-piece price (cap + decoration). Example calculations for a 6-panel cap with front embroidery (up to 8 cm wide, single-sided on the front):

    Quantity Discount Typical use
from 3 pieces 3 % mini crew, pilot run, sample set
from 20 pieces 10 % streetwear capsule, small crew, skate club
from 50 pieces 15 % mid-size brand drop, larger crew, marathon event pack
from 100 pieces 25 % larger streetwear label, company field sales
from 200 pieces 30 % major order, festival crew across multiple stages, group roll-out
from 500 pieces 32 % enterprise roll-out on request, brand main collection

For multi-panel orders (e.g. 30 5-panel campers + 10 7-panel high-crown + 20 6-panel Flexfit) the staircase is calculated across models on the total — you reach the 50-piece threshold already at 60 mixed pieces, without each model needing to meet the minimum. The one-off embroidery digitising fee (€35 net) is waived from 50 pieces upward. Multi-position decorations cost €1.50–2.50 per piece extra per additional position.

Three real-world examples from our shop floor

These examples describe anonymised orders from the past months.

Example 1 — streetwear label, capsule drop, 75 caps A young streetwear label from Hamburg had a capsule drop produced with two panel geometries — 50 Beechfield B639 campers (5-panel, heather-olive, with a small embroidered brand logo on the left of the front) and 25 Beechfield B610 7-panel snapbacks (black, with a woven patch centred on the front). B2B personalisation — who gets which cap?

For B2B bulk orders (company, club, outdoor crew) individual personalisation per wearer is an important factor. We offer two personalisation tiers:

    • Uniform decoration — every cap carries the same front logo. Standard, fastest production, best per-piece prices. Common for sports clubs, company crews and streetwear capsules.
    • Individualised decoration per cap — name, player number, position label ("Coach", "Sales DACH", "Stage Manager") added via flex print or small stitch on the side panel or back closure. Example: 30 6-panel Flexfit caps with a uniform club crest on the front plus an individual player name on the back closure.
